On the Road Again

Well, off the road, I guess.  We finally left our house last night at 8:00.  I was not in the best mood.  Even though Bill was driving, it was like I was too tired to be a passenger.  He was asking me to do all kinds of complicated tasks like Find a song on his iPod! or Please hand me some pretzels!  My brain just could not process it.

The thing I've learned from driving through the boondocks of Indiana is that you can't just stop wherever when you want to stop for the night.  There will be signs like, "Next hotel 45 miles."  So you don't have total control over exactly how far you drive in one night.  You have to stop when you can.

We finally stopped at 11:30 p.m., which was 2 hours of driving, 30 minutes of bathroom/drink stops, and one hour lost to crossing into a new time zone.  We're now in Howe, Indiana, which I figured was close to a state line, given how many fireworks shops there are.  Also we passed a miniature golf course called State Line Golf.

Unfortunately, I thought we were close to the line of a state we were headed toward, which is Ohio, but it appears we're actually closer to the state line with Michigan.  Here's where we are:

In other words, SHIT! we have a lot of driving left to do.  I mean, I knew from the GPS that we had 8 hours left to go, but there would have been something psychologically reassuring to think we were close to the next state on the drive.

Meanwhile it's almost 11 a.m., and we haven't left the hotel yet.  My husband and I ... may not exactly keep the same hours.  My job in the hotel is always to head down to the free breakfast and bring food back up because my husband always sleeps past 10:00 a.m. when they put the breakfast away.  The buffet at this Best Western was a little bit sad, especially for a Weight Watcher, but they did have that fun make-your-own waffle station where you pour batter in a specially designed-cup and then put it on the waffle iron.  That was for my non-Weight Watcher husband.  I had oatmeal.  And as if to add insult to injury, all the TVs in the lobby and eating area were tuned to Fox News.  Bah.

So, somehow we have to make it to Pennsylvania tonight.  And somehow I have to achieve my goal of still loving my family at the end of the trip.  Challenges.

Bummer you're not coming through my part of Ohio! :( Have a safe trip, and good luck with the whole "not hating your family" thing. Always a challenge on road trips.

At least your goal is to still love them AFTER the trip... nothing said about having to do so during the trip!
